The snow disaster is here. Problems are reported by Austria, Moravia and Slovakia – iMeteo.sk is gradually adding

As usual, the first snowfall once again bothered drivers on the roads in particular. While the situation in Slovakia is not so critical, the surrounding countries are already reporting problems.

The first heavy snowfall this winter season has arrived in Central Europe today. And with that, the first problems go hand in hand, especially on the road.

While it started to snow in our country around 1 pm, it has been snowing in Austria or the Czech Republic since the morning. The situation there is therefore more complicated. The snowfall has caused several accidents.

Situation in Austria

The cold from the northern parts of Europe and the humid pressure below the Adriatic have caused snowfall to reach almost all of Austria today. In the east of the country, although the day began with rainy weather, even there, the rain began to turn into snow.

According to state spokesmen, the Austrian regions were well prepared for the winter. In Vienna alone, there are more than 1,400 employees in charge of winter maintenance.

In Tyrol, they will carry out winter maintenance with due regard for the environment. This year, the Tyrolean State Road Service will expand its sprinkling with wet salt, which is more environmentally friendly.

Despite everything, dozens of accidents are reported from the country, the cause of which was just bad weather. In Lower Austria and Styria in particular, there is an obligation to have snow chains on the road.

Situation in the Czech Republic

Our neighbors from the Czech Republic are also struggling with similar problems. Right at the border with Slovakia, resp. in the east of the country, the most snow fell.

There have already been dozens of traffic accidents in the rain or snow. In most cases, these are mainly damage events. Available sources do not report any major accidents with serious injuries or victims.

Slovakia is also being added

In the afternoon it started to snow in Slovakia, first in the west, later in the central part of the country. However, the most snow is expected in the west.

In our country, too, snow causes problems on the road. Drivers are already complaining, e.g. on unpaved roads on the D2 between Bratislava and Malacky.

In conclusion, we will add that the snowfall will subside with the arrival of night. Especially in Záhorie, however, about 10 cm of snow can fall. Therefore, be sure to check your tires tomorrow, if you haven’t done so already, as snowfall is expected from Sunday and the following days of the new week.
