While the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced Thursday, November 25 that the vaccine booster against Covid-19 will be open to all from Saturday, “professionals will not be able to vaccinate more this weekend”, warns on franceinfo Luc Duquesnel, president of the Les Généralistes union of the Confederation of French Medical Unions (CSMF) and doctor in Mayenne. This injection will be available five months after the second dose.
Luc Duquesnel recalls that at general practitioners, pharmacists or nurses, the ordered doses are delivered about two weeks later. “After the minister’s announcement, we will place orders next Tuesday, and we will have them two weeks later.” Another factor will play in this timeframe since the suppliers do not have buffer stocks. “When, from one week to the next, there is a significant increase in demand, they are not able to meet it”, explains the doctor.
Olivier Véran also specified that the vaccination of children could begin at the beginning of 2022. By then, Luc Duquesnel estimates that France will have hindsight “on the safety of the vaccine” vis-à-vis other countries that have already started immunizing children, such as the United States or Israel. The doctor recalls that vaccination, in general, is rather well accepted by parents. “Basically, the French have shown that, in the end, they adhere to a vaccination policy in France. We are one of the countries in the world where we have vaccinated the population the most. I believe that people are in a position to do so. understand.”
