Samsung equips its Galaxy S21 Ultra and S21 + with an app for photo professionals

An Expert Raw application is appearing on the latest high-end models from Samsung. This also allows you to take advantage of a very specific image format, 16-bit DNG.

Not happy to have won our photo comparison facing the iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung endow her Galaxy S21 Ultra, as well as his Galaxy S21 + a new photo application dedicated to experts.

Expert RAW, that’s his name, should soon be available on the Galaxy Store for Galaxy S21 users upgraded to One UI 4. For now, we learn of its existence by a Twitter user, Tron (via GSM Arena), which provides a download link to the Expert RAW APK.

We have tried to install it ourselves on a Galaxy S21 Ultra switched to One UI 4 and we can confirm that it works.

What does Expert RAW bring?

Without going into too much detail, Expert Raw lives up to its name, since it is an application intended for users accustomed to the Pro modes of smartphones. It also provides access to an uncompressed image format called 16-bit linear DNG RAW.

One of the advantages of this format is that it retains the excellent HDR of the S21 Ultra while offering the flexibility of a RAW mode, which will then allow the image to be reworked as desired in processing software.

Beyond RAW DNG, there are the classic settings of a pro mode, namely the ability to change ISO, shutter speed, focus and white balance. Those who like to have a histogram (the curve that breaks down the tones in the image) can also benefit from it here.
