8:44 AM WORLD – Pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme has asked the European Medicines Agency for permission to market its covid pill.

The European medicines regulator said in a statement on Tuesday that it had begun evaluating molnupiravir, which is being developed by Merck in collaboration with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics. The decision is a matter of weeks.

7:54 WORLD – A record increase was also recorded in Germany, where 66,884 new cases were added.

To date, the seven-day incidence there has also exceeded 400 infections per 100,000 inhabitants for the first time.

This follows from data published by the Robert Koch Institute. Due to the spread of the disease, some federal states are tightening restrictions today.
