“Lockdown-nelockdown”

Last week, the government approved a new COVID vending machine, which mainly reflected the current critical situation in healthcare. Under the new rules, unvaccinated people are not allowed in shopping malls, establishments or restaurants. They are only allowed to enter essential establishments, the list of which, however, has been significantly expanded by the Public Health Office, and it certainly does not look like a hard lockdown.

However, the situation continues to deteriorate. On Monday, the health minister spoke about the need to introduce a tough lockdown for everyone for three weeks. The situation is critical and in a few days the number of hospitalizations has risen, and in terms of the daily increase in new positive cases per million inhabitants, we are the worst in the world.

A match has been found, the rules will be finer

Unfortunately, it seems that the coalition has found a consensus, but it will not be a tough three-week lockdown. As certain benefits for the vaccinated should be retained. The Minister of Labor, Milan Krajniak, also spoke after the coalition council. According to him, the measures will be different than expected. “I can’t say it will be for everyone,” he said. However, according to Juraj Šeliga, the agreement on specific measures was unanimous. “All accurate and clear information by mutual agreement will be announced by the Prime Minister with the coalition leaders,” he said.

According to the new COVID vending machine, the key limit is 3,200 hospitalized. The current record from the second wave is 3836 hospitalized. We set this record on March 1 this year. Although we shouldn’t have gotten to this point, the opposite is true. In recent weeks, record numbers of positive cases have increased and it seems that we will soon exceed the set limit.

We currently have 3,182 people with coronavirus hospitalized. Only 18 hospitalizers are missing the border, and more than 160 more were added yesterday. According to the new version of the COVID machine, this means that it will be switched off. “In the event of continuing deterioration, continuing case growth (Rt> 1) and exceeding 3,200 hospitalized patients, the Slovak Republic will be on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe. is introduced in a new version.

We did not know from the ministry what exactly the strict national measures mean, whether they will apply to all the rules as in black districts or by strict restrictions. The Ministry of Health responded with a general formula. “As we have already announced, the measures taken will be presented after tomorrow’s government meeting,” the press department of the Ministry of Health told Topky. However, it seems that the shutdown of the COVID machine should come at the time of crossing the border and the introduction of a lockdown, the colors that divide the districts will thus cease to apply.

So what might a lockdown look like?

The final form of the new rules will be decided by the government today. According to the Topky.sk portal, the lockdown should apply from Thursday 25 November to 15 December. The proposal should also include a statement emergency for 21 days, which would give the government the opportunity to call in medics or the military.

It is therefore possible in an emergency during a lockdown also restrict movement, that should apply between 5:00 and 1:00 the following day. Restrictions on movement should not apply to travel to work, travel to business (food, pharmacy, drugstore, pet supplies, travel to the bank, etc.), travel to the post office, travel to funeral, test, travel to nature, etc. Schools should not close.

Such a lockdown has been known to us since the second wave and lasted several months. However, their coalition parties were against a complete lockdown, demanding exceptions for the vaccinated. It is not yet clear what the exceptions should be, but those who are vaccinated should probably have access to a number of shops, such as clothing or footwear. Other establishments, including hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and accommodation facilities, are to be closed for the next almost three weeks. After a while, the government has to evaluate the situation, if it does not improve, the lockdown will continue.

We are losing the fight with COVID

President Zuzana Čaputová, who said in an emotional speech yesterday that we should listen to experts, stop spreading delusions about COVIDE and change our approach, is also calling for a tough lockdown. There was a strong upset and great emotion in Čaput’s voice. “Dear citizens, we are losing. We are losing the fight against COVID,” she said at the beginning. “I don’t know what else needs to be done or what more needs to be heard and seen in order for us to change our approach.” the president began vigorously.

For the president, the current situation and access to paramedics is absolutely alarming. “What we need is to stop spreading delusions about COVIDE and to talk about COVIDE and start listening to the experts. The consul consortium has clear recommendations that we need to limit mobility and that we need a lockdown.” she said she realized it was an unpopular measure, but it was absolutely necessary.
