British Queen Elizabeth II. took part in the baptism of two of her great-grandchildren on the grounds of Windsor Castle on Sunday.

The family event was only the second occasion when the 95-year-old queen appeared in public since she spent the day in hospital at the end of October.

The private ceremony was organized jointly by the Queen’s two granddaughters – Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew and Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anna. Princess Eugenia gave birth to her first-born son, August Phillip, in February, and Zara Tindall became a triple mother in March, when her son Lucas had two daughters. The queen has two younger great-grandchildren – in June, the daughter of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, who was named Lili, joined the family. Princess Beatrice’s daughter Sienna was born in September.

Royal families also publish official photographs of baptisms – this has happened in the past. The baptism of Duchess Meghan’s eldest son and Prince Harry, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, took place in the summer of 2019 in private and out of public or media supervision, but parents published the footage in a few hours.

Kate and William, on the other hand, baptized all three of their children even in the presence of the media, the last in line was the baptized Prince Louis in 2018. In his case, too, the royal family later boasted of official footage. We will see soon whether this will happen even in the case of weekend baptisms.
