MONACO – He was afraid he would be vaccinated. Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan attacked a man of the law during a traffic control in April. The incident took place in Monaco and the policeman suffered right-hand injuries.

A coronavirus pandemic raged in France and strict restrictions, including a curfew, applied.

According to regional information French daily Nice Matin the Saganov brothers were returning home to their Monaco residence when they were suddenly stopped by the police and the driver, Juraj, and his more famous brother, Peter, were asked to get out of the car.

The three-time world champion and then rider of the German team Bora-hansgrohe apparently succumbed to panic and did not respect the order of the policeman. He was then to attack him. He later explained his incomprehensible act by fearing that he would be forcibly vaccinated against Covid-19.

He didn’t remember anything about the incident

The French daily reported that the 31-year-old Žilina was under the influence of alcohol. Sagan ended up in the hands of the police, but he said he didn’t remember anything about the incident. He apologized for his failure and paid a fine of 5,100 euros.

Peter Sagan, together with his brother Juraj and then-teammate Erik Bašek, contracted coronavirus in February. One of the best cyclists of the last decade will ride in the procontinental French team TotalEnergies from next season.
