Pre-Christmas tragedy: A car crashed into a crowd in a procession, five people died – TVNOVINY.sk

At least five people were killed and more than 40 injured in a car crash in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the Associated Press reported to the local police on Monday.

Details of the age or names of the victims of the incident, which occurred on Sunday (November 21) around 5:00 pm local time, were not immediately disclosed. Police have meanwhile taken a possible suspect into custody, but have not yet reported any motive.

Police also announced that the number of wounded and dead could still change, as many people went to the hospitals alone.

Earlier, fire chief Steven Howard said at a news conference that he had taken 11 adults and 12 children with unspecified injuries to hospitals.

An online broadcast of the city’s parade and footage captured by the participants captured a red SUV as it broke through the barriers and headed at high speed to the road where the traditional march took place.

City Council member Angelito Tenorio told the AP that he was watching the procession with his family and suddenly saw a SUV crashing. “Then we heard a loud bang. And then just crying and screams from the crowd, from the people in the procession,” he added, adding that people started running away quickly.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, unconfirmed reports of the shooting also appeared. The police chief stated at a press conference that one of the police officers had fired a gun in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
