Slovak sport and especially figure skating lost one of their biggest personalities. Hilda the Wise died at the age of 96.

The legendary trainer went to bed at night from Sunday to Monday. The date of the funeral is not yet known. Family members informed about it.

Hilda Múdra became especially famous as the coach of the best Slovak athlete of the 20th century, Ondrej Nepel – the Olympic winner and multiple world and European champion. The famous protégé called her “aunt” and it came to her permanently.

Hilda Múdra was born on January 1, 1926 in the Josefstadt district of Vienna in the family of a teacher named Hildegard Klimpel.

As a member of the Vienna Ice Revue, she fell in love with the manager of the Slovak Bratislava ensemble Jozef Múdre, in the autumn of 1947 she went to see him in Bratislava’s Blue Church and had her first name Hilda written on his advice.

She returned to the ice in the first half of the fifties as a double mother – in 1949 she had a daughter Dagmar and a son Pavol a year later.

First as a dancer of the Bratislava Ice Revue and then as a coach: The meeting with seven-year-old Ondrej Nepel was just a coincidence, but later it turned out to be fatal.

Little Nepel was thrilled by the TV broadcasts from the Bratislava European Championships in 1958. His mother, who led the freshman to the ice, seemed to have no one caring about him. And so she addressed Hilda the Wise.

Eight years later, at the age of nine at the European Championships in Bratislava, Nepela dedicated her first medal to the forty – a bronze medal. Since then, he has stood on the pedestal at every European championship. And since 1969 in every world.

In five years (1969 – 1973) he won everything he could. He won 10 gold medals – one at the Olympic Games (1972), three at the World Championships (1971 – 1973), five at the European Championships (1969 – 1973) and one at the World Winter Universiade (1970).

For Ondrej Nepel, Hilda Múdra was a coach, but also a second mother. For a time, she even went to school with her parents’ associations. Later, they became neighbors – after the first world title, both families received an apartment in a new Dubrava new building. And at the turn of January and February 1989, the two mothers mourned together at his deathbed in Mannheim.

Hilda Múdra also led for some time other leading Slovak figure skaters: Marián Fyc, who was Ondrej Nepel’s biggest domestic rival, in the beginning Agnes Búřilová-Wlachovská, whose famous trustee Jozef Sabovčík later advised in training mandatory figures.

Miroslav Šoška grew out of men under her supervision, Ľudmila Bezáková and Eva Križková-Ďurišinová from women. The list of her trustees also included the excellent dancer and inventive and successful coach Martin Skotnický.

During Nepel’s career, but especially after it, Hilda Múdra worked abroad in the summer as well as for a long time. She coached ninth at the 1972 Olympic Games, the Swiss Charlotte Walter, or the silver from the 1981 European Championships, Croatian Duba Dubravčičová.

“Aunt” Hilda had figure skating in her heart until she was old. She taught him on skates until she was 80. She led the healthy and the mentally handicapped. After an unfortunate fall and injury, her son said, “Mom, I’m sorry, but I won’t let you on the skates anymore.”

Hilda Múdra has received a large number of awards for his work, including the IOC Sport and Ethics Trophy (1998), the SOV Golden Circles and the SOV Fair Play Award (2000), the IOC Pierre de Coubertin Medal (2003) and honorary membership in the Slovak Olympic Games. Committee (2004).

In June of this year, its president Zuzana Čaputová presented the Ľudovít Štúr I. Class Council for extraordinary merits in the field of sports and for extraordinary dissemination of the good name of the Slovak Republic abroad.
