American actor and producer Sean Penn is shooting a documentary about Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine. He therefore spends time on the Russian-Ukrainian border in the Donbas region. This area has been plagued by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict for years.

During the filming, the actor met with members of the Ukrainian army and pro-Russian separatists. In a bulletproof vest and helmet, he moves in the Donetsk area near the military line. The brave 61-year-old filmmaker is trying to capture how this conflict is affecting the lives of people in the region.

Ukraine has been involved in a proxy war against Russia for several years, supporting pro-Russian insurgents in the Donbas region – the Donetsk region and the Luhansk region.

Sean Penn arrived in Donbas at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin had accused the West of escalating tensions. Western countries are strengthening their military presence on the border with Russia, while Moscow is gathering its troops and arsenal on the Ukrainian border.

The conflict has been going on since 2014, when the pro-Kremlin Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown, which led to the Russian annexation of Crimea. He has already claimed about 13,000 dead.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces Operations Command has released information that Sean Penn “has come to see for himself the consequences of Russian aggression.”
