G7, armored Cornwall: anti-Covid proof summit

Cornwall armored for the G7, the first in the presence since the outbreak of the pandemic. An anti-Covid-proof G7, with strict health precautions for those who participate and for those – a very small number due to Covid – who will follow the work of the summit. Starting from Carbis Bay, the nerve center of the G7, where the leaders of the United Kingdom, USA, Italy, France, Germany, Canada and Japan as well as the EU leaders will meet to address the central issues of the global agenda, starting vaccines, the undisputed protagonists of the summit. Roads closed and armored, while the small airport of Newquay has been closed to civilian flights, where only state flights will land in these days, with the leaders and their staff in tow. 5,000 rooms distributed in 200 hotels have been cleaned up and will be used by the media and delegations. But also 1000 ferries that move daily in the various centers of Cornwall. 150 police dogs are also on the field for checks. If the thin peninsula of Cornwall is heavily armored to ensure maximum security in the red zone, the anti-Covid controls put in place by the British government are equally scrupulous. In the UK the vaccination campaign flies, but there is great concern about the rebound of infections linked to the ‘Delta’ variant, which mainly affects the unvaccinated. Hence the decision to accredit only 25 journalists per delegation to the event, ‘relieving’ them of the 10-day precautionary quarantine still foreseen for those arriving in Great Britain. However, those who follow the event will have to undergo a series of preliminary swabs, therefore daily do-it-yourself tests to be registered on the British government website in order to access the media area.
