BRATISLAVA. The government is unable to launch a key measure in time to prevent the collapse of hospitals. The state and companies are not ready for approved mandatory testing of unvaccinated workplaces since Monday.

State institutions, ministries and more than 190,000 Slovak companies do not know how the system should work. Not only since when do they have to test unvaccinated workers, but also what tests do they need, whether the tests will be supplied by the state or they should buy them themselves, whether the state will overpay them and where to ask for money.

They also do not have information on who can actually test, who should check the testing and whether the obligation applies to all employers or only to those with a higher number of employees.

“Interdepartmental negotiations are still ongoing. The provision of logistics is being addressed,” hygienist spokeswoman Dáša Račková said on Friday.

“In view of these facts, the Public Health Office will not impose this obligation with effect from 22 November.”

The prime minister is still on Thursday Eduard Heger from OĽaNO he said several times that the new workplace rules, along with other measures, would come into force on Monday for the next three weeks.

“We have no information and I am also waiting for the hygienists to issue a decree,” says Rastislav Machunka, vice president of the Association of Employers’ Unions and Associations.

“Although there was information that the state would provide us with tests, that it would overpay them, that in the end it would only apply to larger companies.” He does not expect it to be realistic to provide testing in companies from Monday.

The government plans to test the unvaccinated in companies for at least two weeks, formally approving the plan on Thursday. However, journalists have previously received unofficial information from politicians and officials that the new measure is not intended.

Admitting only vaccinated or covide-only people and non-vaccinated people with a fresh negative test suggested that the advisory council of the Minister of Health was one of the main tools to slow down the record increase in new cases.

Several independent SME sources have said that testing in the workplace will start with a weekly delay, “if at all”.
