Sale of the Hospices de Beaune: record broken for the presidents’ piece, auctioned at 800,000 euros – France 3 Régions

A historic edition. The Presidents Room, a Corton-Renardes Grand Cru, is sold at 800,000 euros, for the benefit of the national federation Solidarité Femmes and the Institut Curie, after crazy auctions led by the Pio actors Marmai and Jeanne Balibar.

“800,000 euros is a real number! At some point it’s going to have to stop “, even had fun the godfather of this 161st edition. An amount that shattered all records. The precedent dated from 2020, the president’s coin then went for 660,000 euros.

“This 2021 vintage is the image of a year marked by a hostile environment and at the end by the pride of having overcome the difficulties”, said François Poher, director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, at the opening of the auction.

This year, 349 pieces were put on sale: 56 will be bottles of white wine, 293 of red. A small quantity, due to the capricious weather, which did not affect the quality of the vintage.

The 2021 futures prices soared from the first batches, traditionally Beaune Premier Cru, Cuvée des Dames Hospitalières.

As a reminder, Last year, the event had collected nearly 12.7 million euros for charitable purposes thanks to the sale of 630 pieces. It was the second highest score ever after the 2018 records.

The proceeds from the sale of the other rooms are reserved for the maintenance of the heritage as well as the modernization of the equipment and buildings of the Hospices Civils de Beaune (Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Arnay-le-Duc and Seurre).
