Presidential 2022: more than 600 mayors appeal to support Emmanuel Macron – archyde

More than 600 mayors, including Edouard Philippe, launched, Sunday, November 21, an appeal to support the re-election of Emmanuel Macron as President of the Republic, welcoming “A five-year term favorable to territories and municipalities”, in a column published in Sunday Newspaper (JDD).

“To meet the immense challenges facing the nation – reindustrialisation, further opening up of our municipalities, construction of housing, preservation of our landscapes and success of the ecological transition – we need continuity and stability”, write the 611 signatories, including Christian Estrosi (Nice), Hubert Falco (Toulon), Christophe Béchu (Angers), Caroline Cayeux (Beauvais) or Olivier Klein (Clichy-sous-Bois in Seine-Saint-Denis).

“For us, local elected representatives of France, Corsica and overseas, from all political stripes and often having no label, the account is there”, continue the authors of support for the President of the Republic who, according to them, “Does not pursue any partisan interest” corn “Is of general interest”. “We simply want to continue the relationship of trust that in five years we have been able to forge with the State”, add these elected officials, including David Valence (Saint-Dié-des-Vosges), Alain Chrétien (Vesoul), Karl Olive (Poissy), Jean-Charles Orsucci (Bonifacio), Sonia Lagarde (Nouméa) or Sandra Trochimara (Cayenne).

“This call is the first concrete act of the pre-campaign of candidate Emmanuel Macron, at the end of this week in the regions”, commented a tenor of the majority, while many local elected officials have organized themselves in recent weeks into support committees, at the initiative of the overseas minister, Sébastien Lecornu, and Thierry Solère, a close friend of Mr. Macron.

The operation comes a few days after the closure of the congress of the Association of Mayors of France, during which the Head of State defended his record with pugnacity, receiving a more positive reception than in the past despite the indictment of the leaders of association. More than 300 local elected officials had already expressed their support for Emmanuel Macron in a forum in July.
