Police from Nové Mesto nad Váhou intervened in the morning in a tragic car accident that killed a 23-year-old driver. There was also a passenger in the car who is in critical condition. “His 26-year-old co-driver has been taken to a hospital where he is fighting for his life,” police said on social media.

The causes of the accident as well as the degree of culpability are under investigation. According to current information, the vehicle crashed into a public lighting pole around four o’clock in the morning in the village Považany. The wreckage of the car was scattered 100 meters from the accident site.

According to the police, a forensic expert from the road transport department was also present at the scene of the accident.

The tragedy is all the sadder because it happened on the day we commemorate the Day of the Victims of Traffic Accidents.
