Israel-Palestine: gun attack kills one and injures three in Jerusalem – Franceinfo

Gunshots and screams. One person was killed and three others were injured in a gun attack by a Palestinian member of Hamas on Sunday (November 21) in Jerusalem. “At around 9 a.m. local time, an armed terrorist opened fire in the Old City of Jerusalem. Two civilians were seriously injured and two policemen were slightly injured.”, first reported the police. Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital later reported that a 30-year-old died of his injuries. The Israeli police said that the assailant, “neutralized” by the police, was dead.

The Israeli Minister of Public Security said on television that the assailant was a Palestinian, “member of Hamas”, from the Shuafat neighborhood in East Jerusalem. In a statement, the Hamas leadership confirmed that the assailant, presented as Fadu Abu Shukhaydam, was indeed a member of the organization, without however directly claiming responsibility for the attack. This comes six months to the day after the end of the last war between Hamas and Israel.

Immediately after the attack, many police officers were deployed in the Old City. the Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett asked “to reinforce” the security system in Jerusalem and called on the population and the police to show “vigilance” with the approach of the Jewish holidays of Hanukkah, celebrated from November 28.
