LOSAIL – Briton Lewis Hamilton will start Formula One in the first place for Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix. For the reigning world champion, this is the 102nd pole position in his career. The Dutch leader of the standings, Max Verstappen from Red Bull, lost almost six tenths of a second in qualifying. Finnish Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas finished third.

“I didn’t feel very well on Thursday and Friday, so I was a little slow yesterday. But we were here until midnight and we found areas where I could improve. The last round was wonderful.” said Lewis Hamilton after gaining pole position.

Qualification did not go well for Mexican Sergio Preze at the Red Bull, who finished in Q2 and finished 11th. It can also have an impact on the fight for the title, as the team cannot count on it in a strategic battle at the head of the race.
