The Hofburg area and part of the Ringstrasse to the opera house are closed. Crowds of people and hundreds of demonstrators came to Vienna by bus or train from other federal states and abroad. Vienna City Hall advises residents not to go to the city center today.

The daily Die Presse wrote that the squares near the Hofburg are filling up quickly, with police officers randomly checking compliance with anti-epidemic measures on the spot. They currently require protesters with more than fifty people to wear respirators. According to the Austrian media, about half of the people who arrived at the place comply with the regulation.

According to the APA, the participants in the demonstration mobilized via the social network Telegram and the police expect that right-wing extremists will also arrive. The security forces are also preparing for possible attacks against government offices, media headquarters and hospitals, so their security has been strengthened.

On Friday, Austria decided on a nationwide closure to begin on Monday, and in addition ordered mandatory covid-19 vaccination for all residents. Strict restrictions have been in place in the country for a week without the 19-covid vaccine, but according to the government, they are not enough to slow the spread of the disease, so it has taken tougher measures. On Friday, Austria reported a record almost 16,000 new infections per day, with 15,297 infected today. There are 524 covid patients in the intensive care units.
