A record 9,171 positive PCR tests were added on Friday, the most since the start of the pandemic. The epidemic situation in Slovakia thus continues to deteriorate. The previous record daily increase was this Tuesday, 8,342 cases.

According to the ranking of the Our World in Data portal, Slovakia is currently the country with the worst reported epidemic situation in the world with a seven-day incidence of 11,500 new cases per million inhabitants.

More than 27,000 PCR tests were performed on Friday, of which 34.5 percent were positive. Such a high positivity was last at the beginning of the year – at the peak of the second wave.

After a short decline, the seven-day positivity continues to grow and breaks new records. In the last seven days, 31.5 percent of all PCR tests were positive. Such high testing positivity was not even at the peak of the second wave; then the seven-day positivity did not exceed 30 percent.

The positivity of antigen testing, which responds more early to changes in the epidemic situation, is also growing. It has already surpassed 8 percent and is approaching the record from the second wave.

The situation is rapidly deteriorating in Slovak hospitals as well.
