Kia EV9: This electric SUV will soon be on the lines – PRAVDA.sk

The revolutionary Kia EV6 is just the first swallow of massive Korean electrification. We can look forward to more electric cars. A large SUV will be one of them. So far, it is being demonstrated in the form of a concept.

Kia recently announced that from 2035 it will only produce electric cars. However, its electrical future has already begun. It started with the EV6 crossover, which will be followed by other battery models on the E-GMP platform. One of them will be a large electric SUV. We can get an idea of it thanks to the EV9 concept, which Kia showed at the AutoMobility LA 2021 car show in Los Angeles. It is a good piece of car with a length of 4,927, a width of 2,050 and a height of 1,778 mm. Equally generous is the wheelbase of 3,098 mm. The design shocks with minimalism. It combines simple proportions with sharp lines. Exactly according to the stylistic language “unity of opposites”.

The feeling of a low center of gravity is completed by the richly glazed cabin and the massive thresholds behind which the battery is hidden. The EV9 is known for its high ground clearance, muscular fenders and 22-inch wheel discs. The tiger mask is presented to us in a specific digital form. It consists of a display with star cloud graphics. However, this light show is only visible after the vehicle has been activated. It is similar with daylight graphics based on DLR tubes. Despite its cubist shape, Kia also strived for aerodynamic efficiency. An interesting element from this point of view are retractable roof rails or digital rear-view mirrors, which eliminate air turbulence.

As per the concept, the skeleton lacks a center pillar. The cabin is entered through a huge opening formed by two pairs of doors, the rear of which is opposite. The interior is again simple, but functional and comfortable. Three rows of seats offer space for six passengers. They can also sit opposite each other, as the front seats can be rotated 180 degrees. After folding down the backrests of the middle seats, a comfortable “lounge” with a table will be created. The futuristic steering wheel suggests that the EV9 counts on autonomous steering. The dashboard, in turn, is armed with a 27-inch curved display. The cabin uses a lot of recycled materials from marine waste. For example, from used fishing nets or PET bottles.

But Kia didn’t reveal much about the technique. All we know is that the EV9 will also be able to take advantage of the 800V battery architecture. This means the ability to charge up to 350 kW. From 10 to 80%, the batteries should charge in 20 to 30 minutes. We do not know their capacity, as well as the power of the pair of electric motors that drive both axles. However, based on the Kie EV6, the minimum battery capacity will be 77.4 kWh, with maximum power reaching up to 430 kW and a torque of 740 Nm. Kia promises a single charge of up to 480 km. He will also try to manage his energy thanks to the solar hood. We could see the serial version of EV9 on the road in maybe three years.
