For the French, this is too much. After almost two years of a daily life punctuated by the pandemic, they are increasingly abandoning barrier gestures. According to a study conducted by Public Health France and published Thursday, November 18, hugs and hand shakes are starting again.

From October 28 to November 5, the period covered by this study, “the systematic adherence to each of the barrier measures has decreased, compared to the values ​​observed during the last confinement”, note the authors of this work.

During this time, Public Health France notes a significant drop (-5%) in greetings without handshake and without a hug compared to the last wave (54% vs 59%). The reflexes of systematic ventilation of housing every hour are also starting to look pale. While in the first wave, 45% of respondents said they applied this measure, they are no longer 41%.

Only the systematic adoption of the wearing of a mask in public and the regular washing of the hands continue to be respected in an invariable way, 57% of the 2000 participants in the survey affirming to still do it.

“The populations adopting prevention measures less systematically are most often men, young people aged 18 to 34 and people declaring an inactive professional situation”, notes the study. Vaccinated people also declared in a higher proportion to systematically wear the mask in public and to ventilate their accommodation every hour compared to unvaccinated people.

In addition, among the 292 unvaccinated people who responded to the survey, 22% say they do not want to be tested in the event of symptoms and 65% make an appointment with their doctor for reimbursement. In September, they were 15% and 69% respectively, “or a significant increase in the number of people declaring to refuse the test”, indicates Public Health France while the tests have become chargeable since October 15.

74% of vaccinated people also say they do not or no longer go to places where the health pass is mandatory and 18% that they pay for the tests whenever they need them. 3% plan to be vaccinated.
