Orelsan’s ‘Civilization’ Album Is Already A Success Before It Was Even Released – The HuffPost

MUSIC – Gold record even before the album was released. Simple. Five Bercys in a row in 2022. Basic. Orelsan releases his new album Civilization this Friday, November 19. The project of the Alençonnais rapper met with dazzling success from the opening of the pre-orders, while we had not yet heard any extract from this opus.

Orelsan owes its success first to the expectation created by its absence. The party is over Going back to October 2017, it had been over 4 years since he had released a record. His audience was waiting for a new project firmly. They scrambled for pre-orders, allowing Civilization to get the gold record even before being released. The rapper has put in place a well-established strategy, which started with the release of his documentary series Never show that to anyone.

The series tells the story of the rapper’s rise through more than 15 years of archival footage, filmed by his brother, Clément Cotentin. the documentary served as the launch pad for his album, announced 11 days later. Orelsan and his team have mastered the art of communication, and proved it again when the project was announced. At the time of its certification, Orelsan had not released any title from the album. He only just released the music video for THE‘smell of gasoline, Wednesday November 18, which has accumulated more than 2 million views 24 hours after its release. The rapper had prepared his shot well in advance. In June already, he had announced four concerts in the legendary hall of the AccorHotels Arena, on March 16, 17, 18, and 19, 2022. All sold out. As if that weren’t enough, he announced a 5th date, a few days after the start of the album’s pre-orders. A full AccorHotels Arena represents 20,300 places. If its 5th date fills up, it will bring together more than 100,000 people in 5 days.
