Cuba present on the red carpet of the Latin Grammy

(CNN Spanish) – One of the most anticipated moments of the Latin Grammy red carpet was the arrival of the interpreters of “Patria y vida”, a song nominated for song of the year and which at the Premiere was awarded as best urban song.

As some experts expected, several of the singers took the opportunity to send a message to the Cuban people.

Descemer Bueno (left) and El Funky (right) posed before the media showing a T-shirt that says “Free Maykel”, or “Freedom for Mykel”. This is Mykel Osorbo, interpreter of “Patria y vida”, who has been in preventive prison in Cuba since May, according to the NGO Frredom House.

In August, the NGO Freedom House assured that Castillo “has been in preventive prison since May 18, after being falsely accused of aggression, resistance, evasion of prisoners and detainees, contempt, public disorder and spread of epidemic. His arrest took place after 14 days of forced disappearance, according to what was communicated by the UN Committee on Forced Disappearances ”.

The Cuban government has not officially recognized the activist’s arrest.

Under Maykel’s photo you can see the hashtag #MSI, alluding to “Movimiento San Isidro”, an artistic opposition coalition on the island.

Another who sent a message to the Cuban people was Yotuel, who wore the Cuban flag on a cape. He was accompanied by Beatriz Luengo, his wife, co-author of “Patria y vida”.

In the Latin Grammy acceptance speech during the Premiere, Luengo said that he has received threats for his work on the subject.
