Windows 10: updates are slowing down, Windows 11 deployment is accelerating – Frandroid

The pace of Windows 10 updates will slow down, as Microsoft increasingly turns to Windows 11 and its deployment.

Twice a year updates for Windows are a thing of the past. Since the debut of Windows 10 in 2015, Microsoft has offered two major updates to its system each year. The recipe has evolved over time to become a major update adding a lot of new things and a less important end-of-year update bringing some changes.

Now, Microsoft has confirmed that there would be only one significant update per year for Windows 10. The firm had already made the same announcement for Windows 11. Beyond individuals who can be relieved of less go through downloading and installing a heavy update; these measures are mainly aimed at companies that had to manage this very rapid cycle of updating every six months.

John Cable, in charge of this topic at Microsoft, explains that the next Windows 10 update is scheduled for the second half of 2022.

What’s new for these updates?

Microsoft announced the release of Windows 10 21H2, the latest update for Windows 10. The novelties mainly concern companies with all the same GPU acceleration support for application tasks of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

We can therefore wonder what Microsoft has in store for us for the next major updates of Windows 10. The end of support for the system is scheduled for October 14, 2025. Apart from the updates, Microsoft recently launched the deployment of the new Microsoft Store discovered with Windows 11.

Windows 11 rollout accelerates

And the first returns on Windows 11 seem positive enough to push Microsoft to accelerate the deployment as announced by John Cable.

Based on the positive experience rolling out the update and the user feedback we’ve received so far, we’re ramping up the pace of the rollout faster than we anticipated. We are now making the Windows 11 upgrade more widely available for qualifying Windows 10 devices.

It is already possible install the update to Windows 11 on a compatible PC without waiting the deployment. Can also download and install the system from scratch for a cool installation.
