Hospitals in the Prešov region report a critical condition, they have only 2 free beds with a connection to artificial lung ventilation. In the last week alone, 165 patients had to be transferred to other hospitals, 35 of whom required lung ventilation support.

Hospitals from the Prešov region have:

• 93% occupancy of beds with oxygen connection (473 out of 508 are occupied);
• 95% occupancy of beds with high-flow connection (41 are occupied out of 43);
• 96% occupancy of beds with connection to artificial lung ventilation (out of 53, 51 beds are occupied).

Hospital directors in the region are calling on the government and the health, defense and finance departments to address the critical situation. The Ministry of Finance is asking to release funds.

The head of the Association of Hospitals of Slovakia and the director of the Bardejov hospital, Marián Petko, claim that they have not paid covid care since June. He would also consider whether it is not possible to release a certain number of doctors and nurses from the Ministry of Defense to help some hospitals.

“All ten hospitals are really in critical condition. The staff is exhausted, demotivated, I must say that it is also unpaid, “said the regional chairman Milan Majerský.

The Ministry of Health claims that it monitors the situation in health care facilities in the Prešov Region and takes measures.

From Monday, specialized institutes are also involved in helping to provide beds where the patient’s condition requires the support of artificial lung ventilation.

“In the Prešov region, the so-called white care for a large number of patients with covid. Procedures, the transfer of which will not cause a deterioration of the patient’s health, are scheduled for later dates due to full capacity. However, we assure that everyone who needs acute health care will receive it, “said the State Secretary of the Ministry Kamil Száz.
