TRANSPORTATION – Attention, slowdown. From this Monday, November 15, the speed of electric scooters will be limited to 10km / h in nearly 700 zones of Paris, instead of 20km / h. The decision was taken by the three operators in charge of the 15,000 vehicles in circulation in the capital: Lime, Dott and Tier.

In a joint statement, the three companies explain that the areas concerned are “places with strong pedestrian pressure such as parks, gardens, streets with schools, town halls, places of worship, pedestrian streets or very commercial streets”. These areas “can be adjusted at the margin, according to local needs, communicated by the Paris City Hall and the district town halls”, they specify.

This concerns, among others, the Buttes-Chaumont, Trocadéro, Luxembourg Gardens, Invalides, Tuileries and Avenue Foch sectors as you can see on the map below (brown areas). The speed of the scooters will automatically decrease thanks to their geolocation system.

This decision comes after the express request of the mayor of Paris following several accidents including one fatal. The City, which threatened to terminate the contract with Lime, Dott and Tier if no action was taken, had already implemented this measure in certain areas since the end of June, notably at Les Halles, at Place de la République, or around from the Louvre museum.

David Belliard, deputy mayor in charge of transport, therefore congratulated the operators’ decision, assuring that “it is a first step. But the account is not there yet. The work must continue ”.
