Escape attempt at Fresnes prison: inmate escapes by digging a hole – The HuffPost

PRISON – A detainee imprisoned for acts linked to terrorism tried to escape on the night of Saturday to Sunday from Fresnes prison, before being caught, report multiple media this Sunday, November 14, citing judicial and prison sources.

In a scenario worthy of a film, the detainee, incarcerated on the 2nd floor of the Val-de-Marne prison, managed to leave her cell by digging a hole, indicate our colleagues from LCI. According to BFMTV, she would have used “rudimentary tools” to dig under the bars, before unsealing the stones under the window and going down with the help of sheets.

“The exact conditions in which she managed to get out are still a little unclear”, qualifies however a source close to the investigation at Parisian.

Before being able to leave the prison, the woman was spotted on the walkway thanks to movement detectors, and immediately arrested, before being placed in police custody, reports BFMTV.

The anti-terrorism prosecution seized

The 31-year-old detainee is the subject of special monitoring for radicalization. She had been imprisoned for 4 years, after traveling to Syria to join the terrorist group Daesh, advance franceinfo.

An investigation for escape and associations of terrorist criminals was opened and entrusted to the anti-terrorism sub-directorate of the central directorate of the judicial police, before the national anti-terrorism prosecution took it up.

Prison officials also had all cells in the women’s section checked “to make sure it was an isolated attempt,” the prison administration told LCI.
