TotalEnergies has revealed where Sagan will start the season – Cyklistika – PRAVDA.sk

Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan will make his debut in the new TotalEnergies team at the Vuelta and San Juan races in Argentina. The stage event will take place from January 30 to February 6.

It will be Sagan’s third participation in the Argentine races, which he also started in 2019 and 2020. In both participations, he placed equally five times in the top ten stages, being twice second. He was supposed to start at Vuelte and San Juan last year, but the event did not take place due to a coronavirus pandemic, the cyclingnews.com portal informed.

Sagan transferred to the French team TotalEnergies after a five-year anabase in the German stable Bora-Hansgrohe. He signed a two-year contract with his new employer.

He previously worked in the Tinkoff, Liquigas-Cannondale and Dukle Trenčín teams. He has 119 victories among professionals, including three world titles in the series (2015-2017), twelve stage triumphs at the Tour de France and victories at the Monuments around Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

The Vuelta and San Juan races were first held in 1982, since 2017 they belong to the UCI 2.1 category and attract several WorldTour teams. The last edition (2020) was won by Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep) ahead of Italian Filippo Gann (Ineos Grenadiers).

Evenepoel should also start at the next event, La Gazzetta dello Sport announced that Ganna and his compatriot and new co-driver from Ineos, Elia Viviani, will also make their debut in the new season.
