LECH / ZURS – Slovenian skier Andreja Slokarová won Saturday’s parallel World Cup competition in the Austrian resort of Lech / Zürs. In the grand final, she defeated Nora Theu Louise Stjernesund. The third position was taken by another Norwegian, Kristin Lysdahlová, who overtook the Italian Marta Bassinová.

Twenty-four-year-old Slokarová achieved her premiere triumph at the events of the prestigious series, so far she has had three places in the top ten. Last year’s victory in the parallel races was not defended by the holder of the big globe Petra Vlhová. After third place in the opening giant slalom in Sölden, the Slovak woman decided not to travel to Lech, she will focus on other competitions in technical disciplines in Levi, Finland (November 20-21) and Killington, USA (November 27-28). American Mikaela Shiffrin, the winner from Sölden, did not start either.

Gut-Behrami finished in the round of 16

The Swiss Lara Gutová-Behrami, who finished second in the October ice overture, was eliminated in the eight-final, when she did not finish the second run against the Norwegian Marta Monsen. The space was opened to other co-Bavarians, such as the reigning world champions in this discipline – the Austrian Katharine Liensberger or Bassin, but in an unpredictable competition, in addition to heavy snowfall, any skier from the 16-member main field, who came from the qualifiers so far, could surprise. Liensberger did not finish the second eight-final race either, and Sweden’s Sara Hector advanced on her expense.

In the end, Bassin did not make it to the grand final either, as she was slower than Stjernesund in the sum of the two semi-final races. In the first part of the final, she developed a minimum lead of 12 hundred seconds, which was not enough for her after the change of tracks. She made a mistake in the penultimate goal and finished with a distance of 5 hundredths. The finalists were the fastest in qualifying, now they have exchanged the first two places.

The Slovenian was fourteenth in Sölden, has 118 points and leads the overall standings of the World Championships ahead of Shiffrin (100) and Gut-Behrami (96). Vlhová is continuously on the seventh place with 60 points. “I feel good how different I can feel after winning the World Cup premiere. It’s not the same as if I won slalom or giant slalom, but I enjoyed it anyway. Now I’m going to prepare for the next races.” Slokar said in a television response.
