A Los Angeles court on Friday ended nearly 14 years of custody of the property and private affairs of American pop singer Britney Spears.

Her fans welcomed the decision in front of the courthouse. Thirty-nine-year-old Spears did not attend the court hearing on Friday, but said in her instagram account that this was the best day of her life.

“The custody of Britney Spears’ person and property is hereby terminated,” Judge Brenda Penny said after a half-hour hearing, during which none of the parties opposed the abolition of custody. According to court documents, the value of Spears’ assets is around $ 60 million.

Dozens of Spears fans gathered in front of the courthouse with banners to support her. “It was a monumental day for Britney Spears,” said lawyer Mathew Rosengart. He also thanked the FreeBritney (Liberate Britney) fans, who he said had had a major impact on reaching a decision to rescind custody.

Guardianship was instituted due to the singer’s previous mental difficulties, Spears asked the court to end it this June. On that occasion, she criticized her father, Jamie Spears, who had been her guardian since 2008.

According to the singer, he forced her to act against her will, take lithium and did not allow her to marry Sam Asghari’s friend and have children with him.

At the end of September, Judge Penny dismissed Jamie Spears as guardian. Rosengart is trying to enforce his investigation because of possible mistakes in the administration of his subsidiary. However, he said on Friday that Britney Spears herself would have to decide what to do next.
