LULEA – The Slovak national hockey team did not even succeed in their second appearance at the final tournament of the Olympic Games 2022, when they lost 1: 3 in Lulee. They definitely lost the chance to advance to Beijing.

From the beginning, the Slovaks had a problem coping with the pressure game France, which, thanks to a high attack, gained pucks and created chances. Already in the 2nd minute, they let Duvinová circle the goal and skate into the middle of the attacking zone, where her shot from behind the circles fell behind Zimková’s back – 1: 0. The goal kicked the opponent, Barbirati hit the upper goalpost, Aurard had a double chance to increase the lead, which burned down on the attentive Zimková. The Slovaks entered the second period more actively, R. Halušková and Maskaľová had promising chances to settle. However, the opponents were hit by a goal, Gendarme’s punishment of Ištocy’s hesitation – 2: 0. The French then had the upper hand in the next moments. The Slovaks mostly had to defend themselves during their onslaught, but in some moments they knew how to attack dangerously. In the 37th minute, Košecká hit the goalie Baldinová in the tutovka. The players in white jerseys in the third act, in an effort to dramatize the match, increased their foreclosure and pushed themselves forward. Their hopes were cooled by Baudrit, who in her 51st minute weakened into the end in her own weakness and overtook Zimková for the third time. The Slovaks were close to the first goal of the tournament in the 55th minute, when Lucák Čupková’s point-free shot ended up on the goalpost and subsequently Leskovjanská’s shot did not take place. The French immediately moved their hands in front of their own goal in a confusing situation and put the puck in, and a penalty shot followed, Captain Lucák Čupková hit exactly between Baldinová’s concrete and reduced it to 1: 3. However, it was too late to turn around. In the end, the Slovaks withdrew the goalkeeper and tried the game in power play, but the opponents have already guarded the victory.

Only the group’s winner will fight his way to the February Olympics. The Slovaks are still without a point in the table after losing to the Swedes (0: 3) and the French, at the end they will play on Sunday against the players of the Republic of Korea (12.00).
