WASHINGTON. U.S. businessman Glen de Vries, who flew to space in October with actor William Shatner in a rocket company owned by Jeff Bezos, died in a small plane crash in New Jersey on Thursday.

According to the CBS server, this was announced by the local police, according to which another person died in the accident.

The Cessna 172 single-engine plane crashed into wooded terrain near Hampton Township. Aviation authorities alerted the missing machine around three in the afternoon local time (21:00 CET) and rescuers found the plane crashed about an hour later. They are investigating the cause of the accident.

De Vries founded the technology company Medidata and was also a member of the supervisory board of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. In mid-October, he took part in the Blue Origin New Shepard rocket flight, founded by Amazon chief Bezos.

“We are crushed by the sudden death of Glen de Vries. He has brought a lot of life and energy to the entire Blue Origin team and other members of his crew,” Blue Origin wrote in her official account.
