In Austria, they plan to introduce a nationwide lockdown for the unvaccinated against covid. Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced this in Innsbruck, adding that the government will make the relevant decisions on Sunday.

“We need to tighten the screws even more,” Schallenberg was quoted as saying by the DPA.

According to the office, it would not be reasonable to wait, as the number of infected continues to grow. At the same time, he does not consider it appropriate for the lockdown to affect the vaccinated.

Since the beginning of this week, only vaccinated and overwhelmed people are allowed to enter restaurants, tourist, cultural and sports facilities in Austria. From the beginning of November, the unvaccinated must regularly prove themselves in the workplace with a negative test. These measures have contributed to a significant increase in the number of vaccines administered since their entry into force.

On Friday, the authorities reported almost 11,800 new cases in the previous 24 hours. On Thursday, the number of new cases approached 12,000.

Meanwhile, German authorities announced on Friday that they would classify Austria as a high-risk country from Sunday.
