Protests against covidpas continue in Croatia – SME.sk

ZAGREB. On Thursday, for the fourth day in a row, hundreds of Croats protested in the capital Zagreb and in several other cities against the mandatory covidpas, which will have to be proved by civil servants from Monday.

Earlier this month, the Croatian government introduced new restrictive measures aimed at slowing the rapid spread of the virus. Croatia is one of the countries in Europe with a very low vaccination rate.

From Monday, November 15, the obligation to prove with a certificate of vaccination, covoid override or negative test will apply to all civil servants, including those working in education. Until now, this measure only applied to social and health workers, writes AFP.

On Thursday, several hundred people gathered in the center of Zagreb in front of government buildings. Some of them carried lanterns and posters that said, “The unvaccinated should not be released,” or “Freedom of Choice.”

Similar protests have been taking place in the country since Monday in about 30 cities. People organize them through social networks.

On Wednesday, Croatia recorded the highest daily number of new cases coronaviruswhen 7315 people were tested positive.

In Croatia, which has a population of about 4.2 million, only about 45 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. Among the European Union countries, only Romania and Bulgaria, reminds AFP.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 514,000 cases and almost 9,700 related deaths have been recorded in Croatia.
