Document named Karel brings a very personal look at the last year of the life of the legend of popular music Karel Gott. The screening took place in the presence of the creators of the documentary, the singer’s wife Ivana and invited guests. The author of the documentary is the renowned director Olga Malířová – Špátová.

The director shot a portrait of Karel Gott during the last year of his life. With a camera, she went to places that were key in his life. The spectator will see his Prague villa Na Bertramce, become part of the family Christmas at the cottage and visit the village where Karel Gott grew up and where it took him at the end of his life.

There is also humor

The whole film portrait lacks Charles’s famous humor, but also humility and foresight. He is accompanied in the film by his wife Ivana and also daughters Charlotte Ella and Nelly Sofia. Karel also reveals his relationship with his illegitimate daughter Lucia, who appears in the documentary with her children. Through Gott’s memories, the film recapitulates his individual life stages.

He recalls moments of great fame at home and abroad, explaining why he chose not to emigrate. Open statements are accompanied by immortal songs and archival footage. He also describes the period of normalization during which he signed Antichart and evaluates what was right from today’s point of view, what was not, what he would have done differently.
