Finding a PS5 at Christmas will become even more complicated than before – Frandroid

Sony has downgraded its production targets for the PS5. Rather than 16 million consoles, the Japanese firm would target 14.8 million, making their purchase even more complicated.

Bad times for the builders of consoles. While Steam has just announced to shift the release of its console because of component shortage, Bloomberg tells us that Sony has reduced its production forecast for the Playstation 5 for this year, even though the machine is already used to out of stock.

More specifically, Sony initially targeted production around 16 million consoles in March 2022. The company would only target 14.8 million units produced, according to a source cited by Bloomberg.

Frustration and slow sales

Sony is not alone in this boat. Nintendo cut its sales forecast by Switch 1.5 million consoles and the Xbox Series X continues to be a rare commodity on the shelves. On the side of the players Pc, graphics cards have been snapping up at high prices for many months.

The situation is not easy for Sony. The Japanese firm knows that it has put on the market a console capable of selling very well, or even better than its predecessor. If the PS5 had started with a bang, even doubling the PS4 in terms of the number of units sold at launch in March 2021, the curve has since reversed in favor of its little sister.

Internally, the frustration would be palpable. Sony’s goal of selling 22.6 million consoles by the end of the next fiscal year seems increasingly compromised. And the icing on the cake, a Japanese game publisher would even find that more and more players are turning willy-nilly to the PC version of a game, failing to be able to get their hands on the console.
