NAIROBI – The Kenyan government dissolved the entire local football union on Thursday. He could not explain how he spent the financial subsidy previously provided by the government.

The dissolution of the union was announced by the Minister of Sports Amina Mohamed, who informed on Thursday the results of a preliminary investigation into possible corruption. The government now wants to expand the investigation by the police and anti-corruption authorities. They will decide whether to prosecute.

According to the Minister of Sports, the decision to dismiss all elected union officials and replace them with a temporary board should not affect the holding of interstate meetings. The union was disbanded just hours before Thursday’s African World Cup match 2022, in which Kenya’s team was scheduled to take part in the E-group on Uganda. According to the AP, the International Football Federation (FIFA) can be expected to intervene in the case. It prohibits any government interference in the functioning of national associations in individual member states. Kenya thus risks exclusion from the international scene.
