MONT-VALÉRIEN

Hubert Germain’s coffin is transported back to the armored tank which will transport it to Mont-Valérien, where he will be buried in the crypt of the war memorial, alongside 16 other combatants.

SONG OF THE PARTNERS

After the Marseillaise, it is the song of the Partisans which is sung to pay homage to the last companion of the liberation that was Hubert Germain.

SPRAY OF FLOWERS

Once his speech is finished, Emmanuel Macron lays a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Head of State then rekindles the flame, alongside General Dary.

The names of the soldiers who died this year are then listed, a minute of silence is respected before the Marseillaise sounds.

FRANCE IS FREEDOM

Paying tribute to the fight of the companions of freedom, Emmanuel Macron recalls that the Head of State will remain the guardian of the memory of these men and women who “sacrificed their lives for a cause greater than them”.

If the companions of the Liberation are no longer, the Head of State assures us that their memory will therefore continue to live on.

SPEECH

Emmanuel begins to speak, paying tribute to the memory of Hubert Germain. “French, French, would we be there without Hubert Germain?”, Begins the President of the Republic, subsequently quoting several companions of the Liberation, saluting the memory of these 1038 people, “knights of freedom”.

TRIBUTE

With great ceremony, soldiers transport Hubert Germain’s coffin from the chariot, which arrived at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe, to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

UNKNOWN SOLDIER

After a new Marseillaise, the President of the Republic conducts a review of the troops. The tank “Bir Hakeim” arrives at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe. A minute of silence is respected by Emmanuel Macron in front of the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

TRIUMPHAL ARCH

While waiting for the tank carrying Hubert Germain’s coffin to go up the Champs-Élysées, the President of the Republic greets the Vice-President of the United States, Kamala Harris, on a visit for a few days in France, his Prime Minister, Jean Castex and the Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe.

The procession stops in front of the statue of General de Gaulle, Place Georges Clemenceau, at the start of the Champs-Élysées. This symbolic break had been requested by the companion of the Liberation, Hubert Germain himself.
