Over one million “EU citizens” have already received “the European Covid certificate, or Green Pass will follow”. This was announced by the European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, speaking in the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Although the regulation that will establish it “will enter into force on 1 July, we are distributing them already now” in some Member States, he said, adding that over a million Europeans already have them “and many more will follow”. “With this regulation – continues Reynders – every EU citizen will be entitled by law to have a certificate attesting to vaccination, recovery from Covid-19 or a negative test”. The Pass “will make life easier for citizens and help them exercise the right to freedom of movement. It will help ease restrictions” on free movement in the EU, concludes the commissioner. The regulation will be voted on at this session by the European Parliament; it will then be approved by the Council to enter into force on July 1st.
