Anne Rigail: “The United States represents 40% of Air France long-haul flights”

In an interview with France 24, Air France CEO Anne Rigail is delighted with the reopening of the United States to European travelers, routes that represent 40% of the company’s long-haul network. “We will gradually increase to 90% of the 2019 offer by next March”, also predicts the leader.

The resumption of air traffic to American cities is a breath of fresh air for the company Air France which, before the pandemic, had embarked on a restructuring of its activities.

Hard hit by the Covid-19 crisis, like the entire aviation sector, the group has benefited from state aid to overcome it. “The loans we have taken out to get through the crisis are important,” recalls Anne Rigail. “We need to both take advantage of all restart opportunities and continue this transformation so that we can meet these loan deadlines.”

Air transport, which generates a lot of CO emissions2, is also faced with the challenge of energy transition. Anne Rigail looks back on the efforts made by Air France, in particular with the “renewal of the fleet by half to be replaced by new generation planes” which pollute less.
