DANUBE WEDNESDAY – Joao Pedro de Oliveira Janeiro from Portugal became the new coach of the Slovak football fortunalist DAC Dunajská Streda on Wednesday. The 40-year-old coach came to Žitný ostrov from the team of the Hungarian highest competition FC Kisvárda. He agreed with the DAC on a contract by the end of the current season, with an option for another year.

Joao Janeiro replaced the 47-year-old Hungarian helmsman Antal Németh, with whom the management of Dunajská Streda terminated the contract prematurely on Tuesday. Németh’s original contract was valid until May 31, 2022.

Joao Janeiro has previously worked as an assistant and scout at CF Belenses in Portugal at the time the team was active in the UEFA Europa League group stage. In Estoril, he was an analyst and observer of the opponents. During his career, he worked as an assistant to Marcel Biels and learned the basics of football from one of the icons of world football, Johan Cruyff. From 2018 to 2020, he worked in Szeged, Hungary, and from May this year he led the first-league FC Kisvárda, with which he was surprisingly the NBI leader until last weekend.
