Valneva: the EU signs a pre-order for anti-Covid vaccines with the French laboratory Valneva – BFM Bourse

(BFM Bourse) – The Nantes group, the only European designer of an inactivated whole virus vaccine against Covid-19, has announced an agreement to provide up to 60 million doses to Europe, including around 27 million from 2022 .

After the intriguing about-face of the United Kingdom, which had bet very early on the developing vaccine of Valneva for abruptly retract in September for uncertain reasons, the European Commission has just approved an agreement to acquire up to 60 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from Nantes biotech for a period of two years.

In reaction, the course of the company (resulting from the merger in 2013 of a French laboratory and an Austrian) soared 20.57% to 21.28 euros around 12:30 pm, completely erasing the fall caused in September by the unexpected termination of the contract signed by the United Kingdom.

According to the terms of the agreement with the European Commission, the latter will have around 27 million doses delivered next year and may increase its initial purchase to reach a total of 60 million doses to be supplied before the end of 2023. La Delivery of the vaccine is currently scheduled for April 2022, subject to approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The agreement has yet to be officially ratified, after a final examination focusing in particular on the volumes required by each of the Member States of the European Union.

An alternative vaccine solution

Wednesday’s announcement follows the conclusion of advanced exploratory talks with the European Commission, which began in January 2021.

We look forward to concluding it and starting the gradual submission of the VLA2001 dossier to the EMA. Our recent Phase 3 data (last phase of clinical trials before a possible commercialization, Editor’s note) have enabled us to demonstrate the value of VLA2001 and we are convinced that other supply agreements could follow it “.
