Android / Google TV: the Google Home application integrates a very practical tool – Frandroid

The Google Home app includes a remote control for devices running on Android TV and Google TV.

The smartphones will probably end up replacing the remotes of our televisions. They have the definite advantage of being always close at hand, where the remote controls have this annoying tendency to hide between two cushions.

An important step has just been taken in the domination of smartphones over remote controls: as reported 9to5Google, the application Google home, which is used to control most Google connected home devices, but also those using Android TV and Google TV, has just integrated a zappet. It complements the one already available on the Google TV app.

Features that are still a bit sparse

At the moment, the remote is a little hard to find at first. You have to go to the menu of the device you want to control. There, at the bottom left, then appears an option ” open the remote control“. We were able to test the functionality ourselves on an Nvidia ShieldTV.

The first time you launch the option, you will be asked for a code displayed on your TV screen.

For the time being, this is the union minimum when it comes to controlling a television. You can “swipe” to navigate and tap to validate a choice. At the bottom, we see the presence of a Google Assistant icon and the home menu. According to9to5Google, when connected to some devices, the app offers volume control. On the other hand, this is not the case with our configuration.

Remember that in the case of Chromecast, the option has just been removed recently because of a legal dispute between Google and Sonos.

To access this option, Google Home version 2.46 is required. As of this writing, this version is only available in APK. But it should not take long to land on the store. For now, only the version available on the Play store incorporates this new functionality.
