Covid, infections and deaths: increase only in Europe

Coronavirus, infections and deaths are growing in the world today but the “slight” upward trend depends only on Europe. This is explained by the latest weekly report from the World Health Organization which reports how Covid-19 cases globally grew by 1% in the period 1-7 November, with just over 3.1 million new infections in the period under review. “A slight upward trend”, explains WHO, which however depends only on the European region, the only one to record an increase in Sars-CoV-2 infections (+ 7%), unlike the other regions that report numbers stable or declining. Deaths are also growing in the European region alone (+ 10%), while they are decreasing in other regions and globally, with over 48 thousand new deaths reported (-4%). As of 7 November – the report reads – over 249 million confirmed Covid cases and over 5 million deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the emergency. The regions that in the last week analyzed by the WHO report the highest weekly incidence rates of Covid-19 per 100 thousand inhabitants are the European region (208.9 new cases per 100 thousand) and the Americas (68.6 / 100 thousand). The same two regions have the highest weekly incidence of deaths (2.9 and 1.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants respectively). In absolute value, the United States reported the highest number of new Sars-Cov-2 infections ( 510,968 new cases, -3%), Russian Federation (281,305, + 3%), United Kingdom (252,104, -12%), Turkey (197,335, + 8%) and Germany (169,483 new cases, + 29%)
