The Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia, which is one of the cleanest in Europe, has changed its color. At first glance, it looks like a muddy lake. This unusual phenomenon can even be seen from space, writes the Croatian portal dalmacijadanas.hr.

The ferry passengers noticed the strange coloring, who also published the video on the Internet. Instead of a beautiful blue color, the sea is colored green-brown.

The sea changed color from the town of Ploče to the Makarska Riviera. The Croats first noticed a strange change two days ago.

Experts have a simple explanation for this. Since the beginning of November, a large amount of precipitation has fallen in the valley of the Neretva River, which flows into the Adriatic Sea. In some places, more than 300 liters per square meter fell. The storm water containing mud and dirt subsequently colored the river and the sea.

Sea currents spread the muddy water to the northwest towards the Makarska Riviera. According to the Croatian media, it will take a few more days for the sea to look the same as before.
