Road freight transport accounts for a significant share of emissions production, so efforts to reduce emissions in this sector are definitely in place. Tesla is trying to do that with his electric truck Semi, Hyundai hydrogen truck Xcient and the new Geely concern with a Homtruck tractor, informs CNBc.

Homtruck is not to travel until 2024 and according to the statement in the press release it will be a “home on wheels”. Although the Geely Group did not reveal the technical specifications, the tractor looks stunning in the photos.

Farizon Auto is behind the Homtruck, and when launched, it will be the most advanced, technically advanced and cleanest truck to travel on the road.

Choose from a number of drives

Homtruck can be configured in several versions of the drive. The architecture will make it possible to equip the tractor with a range extender, a hybrid engine for methanol, but also a purely electric engine, which will even come with battery replacement technology in the future.

The name of the tractor was created by combining the words “home” and “truck”. The manufacturer wants Homtruck to be a new home for truck drivers. Freight drivers spend more time in their truck than at home.

Homtruck therefore combines work and the environment, as well as a place for entertainment. The design and equipment of the tractor is based on the real needs of truck drivers, which were researched by Farizon Auto engineers.

There is also a full kitchen or bathroom with shower and toilet. High comfort is further enhanced by a single bed, a refrigerator or a built-in coffee machine. The homtruck is also equipped with a small dishwasher.

Thanks to its technologies, the vehicle itself will be able to process “big data” in real time. For example, it can optimize navigation based on this.

Fully autonomous within a few years

Thanks to a large number of advanced sensors such as LiDAR, ultrasonic or microwave sensors and a 5G connection, the Homtruck will bring a fourth level of autonomous driving.

V2X communication ensures that individual tractors can communicate with each other, giving the vehicle even more data to further optimize and streamline the long journey to the destination.

Of course, there will be no lack of OTA updates, thanks to which Homtruck will always receive the latest version of the systems. The Geely Group also wants to score points in the global market with its revolutionary electric tractors. So in 2024, we could see it in Europe as well.

But the competition is already on the market

However, Geely will have a hard time with her revolutionary tractor. The competition has come up with its solutions a long time ago and in some cases they are even paving the way. An example of such a truck is the Hyundai Xcient.

The truck fleet of the Korean carmaker, which has been touring Switzerland for 11 months, has exceeded the magical limit of one million kilometers.

During this time, the fuel cell truck fleet has reduced CO2 emissions by more than 631 tonnes, with 46 Swiss companies using 46 Xcient vehicles. The Xcient truck received several improvements a month ago with the arrival of the updated version.

The range for one refueling is 400 km. This is not a dazzling figure, but refueling a hydrogen tractor takes significantly less than charging an electric car, depending on the outside temperature, from 8 to 20 minutes.

Currently, only one configuration of the second generation Hyundai Xcient truck with a 6 × 2 axle is available. However, the previous generation is still available in a 4 × 2 configuration.

A thousand kilometers even with an electric truck

Electric propulsion has not yet adapted much in heavy goods transport. Electric trucks travel several thousand kilometers long routes, where lower range of electric vehicles can be a problem.

But the Swiss company Futuricum has shown what future electric tractors might look like. He crossed them on the test track more than 1000 km on a single charge.

Futuricum Logistics 18E is already actively used by the logistics company DPD. The tractor has a “paper” range of 760 km on a single charge, which is a very nice number in itself.

The Swiss tractor owes it to the massive, up to 680 kWh battery supplied by BMW. However, the company decided to overcome the stated range and even tried to set a world record in the range of the electric tractor, which it eventually managed to break.

Tesla will be coming soon

The start of production of the Tesla Semi electric tractor is a never-ending story. More than 4 years have passed since the first performance and the revolutionary tractor is still not produced. However, work at the Texas factory is finishing and test production of the first pieces should begin soon.

The Californian carmaker announced this summer that even though beta production will begin this year, the first pieces will not reach customers until next year. But Ramon Laguart, CEO of PepsiCo, probably didn’t get the news or he knows something the rest of us don’t. Laguarta expects his company will get the first Tesla Semi later this year.

PepsiCo is one of the largest buyers of Semi electric tractors. Almost immediately after the performance, Pepsi ordered up to 100 pieces of this vehicle. The first 15 pieces that Pepsi plans to use for a new emission-free project should be delivered later this year.
