Ford will stop production of the current Mondeo in Valencia as early as March next year. However, there is no information about the model that would represent him. At least that’s what the sketches that have appeared in China suggest.

The middle-class sedans and station wagons of their mainstream brands have long since recounted their glory days. Either way, Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat and Opel Insiginia are doing well, although their registrations are only a shadow of the days when they were still icons. And then there are the models that can’t be described as anything other than a business fiasco. These include, in particular, the Ford Mondeo. The last generation, which was global, somehow didn’t take over, and in Europe it also had a three-year slippage. And so it turned out.

While more than 100,000 customers opted for this model ten years ago, last year it was a meager 21,222. Ford claims that across Europe, interest in classic mid-range models has fallen by 80% since 2010. So coming up with the next generation would literally be suicide. Therefore, many expected the Mondeo to transform into a much more popular crossover. Ford only strengthened this speculation when he introduced the Ford Evos – a very handsome middle-class crossover – at the Shanghai Motor Show in April.

However, the shock was that the carmaker also added that Evos is and will be exclusively a Chinese “affair” and that customers in Europe and the US will not see it. And this strategy, which does not make much sense, is confirmed by spy pictures of a secret disguised Ford, which has the proportions of the middle class, but is certainly not a crossover. In addition, sketches of a sports “tailor-made” sedan appeared on social media in China, commenting that it was Mondeo’s successor.

But the novelty has only a mask in common, but the silhouette resembles a normal liftback, as if Ford wanted to be inspired by the Peugeot 508, which changed from a classic sedan to a 4-door coupe and shooting brake. It is difficult to predict from the pictures whether the novelty will have an increased chassis, but certain parallels with crossovers would not have to be missing. This is how contemporary fashion commands. We will see if such a recipe for customers together with the new label will work. Ford would undoubtedly need it in Europe.
