The ASSE buyout process is ongoing. But the record of the sale of the Saint-Etienne club experienced yet another decisive turning point on Monday.

New disagreement between Caïazzo and Romeyer

At this stage of the process, two proposals hold the attention of the leaders of AS Saint-Etienne among those recorded by Bernard Caïazzo and Roland Romeyer for the resumption of the Greens. There is the project carried by the duo Mathieu Bodmer and Jean-Michel Roussier, and backed by Canadian and Chinese investors, via a fund based in Switzerland, as well as the Olivier Markarian project. Partner of ASSE through his company Markal, the businessman from Valence is also a member of the supervisory board of the Loire club.

But these two files divide the presidents of the Loire stable according to information collected by the newspaper The team. Jean-Michel Roussier would always be “Quarreled with Berrnard Caïazzo since the end of Onzeo in 2019”. The chairman of the ASSE Supervisory Committee is therefore not in favor of his project, unlike the chairman of the management board.

However, the sports daily specifies that “It is not Romeyer, but rather Caïazzo who keeps control of the club’s sales process”. Regarding Olivier Markarian, he is also not in the plans of the two majority shareholders for various reasons. “Caïazzo does not want him and Romeyer, to whom Markarian is no longer willing to guarantee an honorary place at the club, would now prefer another project to him”, explains the Ile-de-France source.

ASSE Mercato: The sale of the club finally postponed?

While the latest rumors were of a sale scheduled for the end of the calendar year, Bernard Caïazzo and Roland Romeyer could finally make a completely surprising decision in this matter. Indeed, The team reveals that the two strong men of theAS Saint-Etienne could postpone the club’s sale past the end of December deadline.

“Unless there is a fantastic offer, another scenario should therefore not be ruled out: seeing the owners, Caïazzo in particular, postpone the sale while waiting for better days”, assures the local source. In addition, according to the KPMG firm quoted by the media, a third project to take over ASSE would also be in the running, but no information has leaked on the investors who are behind it.
