“If they take her check, she can go to the company with the entire prosecutor’s office,” Robert Fico spoke in the cottage about the security check of his girlfriend Katarina Szalay. The National Security Office was interested in checking the waiting room at the prosecutor’s office on the basis of suggestions related to the use of a luxury car for approximately 50,000 euros.

Szalay is not among the 52 new prosecutors appointed by Attorney General Maroš Žilinka last week. Diary SME informs that Robert Fico’s girlfriend did not attend the October exams at all and is therefore serving as a waitress with a 600-euro salary.

The National Security Office acted lawfully regarding the security clearance of the girlfriend of Smer-SD leader Robert Fico. At the end of August 2021, when Fico was talking about an inspection in a hunting lodge according to media videos, the office had not yet prepared questions for an interview with the waiting woman. Last week, a parliamentary committee to monitor the activities of the NBU stated this. No intervention by Robert Fico in the case of the opening of the waiting room check at the prosecutor’s office was confirmed, although he himself claimed that he had obtained questions from his girlfriend for the interview.

The NBU acted at the opening of the waiting check on the basis of mediated information about the property it allegedly used.

The Committee does not anticipate that Szalay needed to inquire into questions, as it is easy to deduce what they will be asked. Based on the chronology of events, the members of the Committee do not anticipate that there has been any intervention by Fica at the Office.

Fico complained that at first his friends from this office did not want to help him, later he called a man named Martin, who was willing to arrange what the head of Smer asked.

Thanks to the connections of the three-time prime minister, Fico’s girlfriend had questions available in advance at the security interview that she could prepare for. If she lost the check, she could forget about the prosecutor’s job.

The NBU Control Committee was unable to find out who Martin was mentioned from the recording from the cottage. There are three people with this name at the office, but none of them work in the field of inspections. In this context, the prosecutor of the regional prosecutor’s office has already announced the commencement of criminal prosecution for abuse of power by a public official.

The interview in the cottage took place at the end of August, Szalay’s hearing was scheduled two weeks later.
