BARCELONA – The new FC Barcelona football coach Xavi Hernández has received a grand welcome at Camp Nou. Thousands of fans of the Spanish Grand Club applauded him at the stadium on Monday.

Former long-time midfielder FC Barcelona came on the field enthusiastically chanting the crowd “Xavi, Xavi” and, accompanied by his family and club president Joan Laport, signed a contract.

“I don’t want to be too emotional, so I’ll just tell you one thing – we’re the best club in the world,” said Xavi, who has so far led Qatar Al-Sadd. Laporta called his arrival a spectacular event. “Today will be a historic day for Barcelona,” said the president of Barcelona.

Xavi became the first coach to be introduced in Barcelona in this way, the celebration is usually done only with the transfer of megastars. He completes the first training with the team on the second day. He is scheduled to premiere in office on November 20 at home against the city’s rival Espanyol.

Forty-one-year-old Xavi came from Al-Sadd, from where Barcelona obtained him by paying a ransom clause of about 5 million euros. In Qatar, his contract was valid until 2023. Xavi completed an active career in the Qatari club and from 2019 he was his head coach. Al-Sadd led to the championship last season.

The former creator of the game with ingenious football thinking won up to 25 trophies in the first team of Barcelona in the years 1998-2015, including four triumphs in the Champions League and eight titles in the Spanish league. He played for FCB for a total of 767 duels.
